Getreu ihrer interdisziplinärer Ausrichtung wartet die xviii.ch – Schweizerische Zeitschrift für die Erforschung des 18. Jahrhunderts mit einundzwanzig Beiträgen auf, die die Lebendigkeit der Forschung über die Schweizer Aufklärung bezeugen – sei es in Kultur-, Sozial- oder politischer Geschichte, den Literaturwissenschaften, der Geschichte des Buches oder der Kunst. Gleichzeitig setzt die Zeitschrift ihre Internationalisierung fort: Seit der Annahme des Englischen als vierte Publikationssprache geben wir erstmals Forschenden Raum, die Institutionen des Globalen Südens angehören, was einmal mehr das Forschungsinteresse an der Schweiz des 18. Jahrhunderts bei Spezialistinnen und Spezialisten dieser Periode weit über lokale oder gar europäische Kreise hinaus beweist. Der Band von xviii.ch, den Sie in Händen halten, hätte eigentlich, gemäss dem Usus der alternierenden Hefte seit der der ersten Ausgabe im 2010, ein Themenheft sein sollen. Er erscheint allerdings diesmal ausnahmsweise als freie Nummer und wird dies auch im nächsten Jahr tun. Ein thematisches Heft ist wieder vorgesehen für das Jahr 2026 und wir laden potentielle Herausgeberinnen und Herausgeber bereits ein, uns ihre Vorschläge zu unterbreiten.

Fidèle à sa perspective interdisciplinaire, xviii.ch – Revue suisse d’études sur le XVIII e siècle propose vingt et une contributions qui témoignent de la vitalité de la recherche sur les Lumières helvétiques, qu’il soit question d’histoire (culturelle, sociale, politique), d’études littéraires, d’histoire du livre ou d’histoire de l’art. En parallèle, la revue poursuit ses efforts d’internationalisation : après l’adoption de l’anglais comme quatrième langue de publication, nous donnons pour la première fois de la place à des chercheuses affiliées à des institutions du Sud global. Ce qui prouve, une fois de plus, l’intérêt du XVIII e siècle helvétique pour les spécialistes de la période, bien au-delà de la recherche strictement locale ou même européenne. Le volume de xviii.ch que vous tenez entre les mains aurait dû être un numéro thématique, conformément à l’alternance établie depuis la naissance de cette publication en 2010. Il est toutefois publié – à titre exceptionnel – sous la forme d’un numéro libre, et il le sera également l’année prochaine. Pour lire un nouveau numéro thématique il faudra donc attendre 2026, mais nous invitons d’ores et déjà les éditrices et éditeurs potentiels à nous adresser des propositions.

Fedele alla sua prospettiva interdisciplinare, xviii.ch – Rivista svizzera di studi sul secolo XVIII propone ventun contributi che testimoniano della vitalità della ricerca sull’Illuminismo elvetico, che si tratti di storia (culturale, sociale, politica), di studi letterari, di storia del libro o di storia dell’arte. In parallelo, la rivista prosegue la sua internazionalizzazione: dopo l’adozione dell’inglese come quarta lingua di pubblicazione, diamo per la prima volta spazio a delle ricercatrici affiliate a delle istituzioni del Sud globale. Ciò che prova, una volta di più, l’interesse del XVIII secolo elvetico per gli specialisti del periodo, ben al di là della ricerca strettamente locale o addirittura europea. Il volume di xviii.ch che tenete tra le mani avrebbe dovuto essere un numero tematico, conformemente all’alternanza stabilita sin dalla nascita di questa rivista nel 2010. Viene tuttavia pubblicato – a titolo eccezionale – sotto forma di numero libero, e così avverrà anche l’anno prossimo. Per leggere un nuovo numero tematico si dovrà dunque attendere il 2026, ma invitiamo sin d’ora le editrici e gli editori potenziali a inviarci delle proposte.

True to its interdisciplinary spirit, this issue of xviii.ch – Swiss Journal of Eighteenth-Century Studies features twenty-one contributions spanning cultural, social, and political history, literary studies, book history, and art history. This variety testifies to the vitality of research on the Swiss Enlightenment. At the same time, the journal continues to strengthen its commitment to internationalization: following the adoption of English as a fourth language of publication, we are for the first time publishing the work of researchers affiliated with institutions in the Global South, demonstrating that interest in eighteenth-century Switzerland extends well beyond local or even European scholarship. The volume of xviii.ch you are holding in your hands was intended to be a thematic issue, in keeping with the pattern of alternation between free and thematic numbers established since the publication of the first volume in 2010. Exceptionally, however, this number is published as a free issue, as will next year’s. We will have to wait until 2026 to be able to read another thematic issue, for which we are encouraging potential editors to submit proposals.
